Japanese Songs & Rhythm, with Naomi Maki


Recently started collaboration of Joji's with Naomi Maki.
They introduce beautiful melody of popular fork songs and lullabies from all over Japan with traditional and contemporary arrangements by themselves. Joji performs Shakuhachi flute, Japanese percussion and vocals, and Naomi performs piano, keyboard and vocals.
Programme includes Yamanaka-bushi (Ishikawa Prefecture), Tsuki nu Kaisha(Okinawa), Esashi-Oiwake(Hokkaido), Komori-Uta(Tokyo) and so on.

Naomi Maki image1 Naomi Maki graduated from the Conservatoire of Shobi in Japan and studied under Kenjiro Urata and Hidehiko Arashino specially in counterpoint and harmonics. She also studied both Jazz Piano and Hammond Organ under the principle Yuri Tashiro. She composed for a flamenco dancer Jose Miguel, and collaborated with gypsy musicians on piano compositions and the Joyful Orchestra on singing. From 1991 to 1993 she studied Kiyomoto, a type of music used in Kabuki, under Kiyomoto Seiju-dayu. After living in New York for two years, she is now based in London.
Naomi Maki image2She has received great influence by traditional Japanese, English and Italian music. She combines her influences from both traditional and modern music with her own sense and feel for music, and offers her own unique style of composition and singing.
